Bond & Coyne Carbon Reduction Plan

Creativity for people. Design for the planet.

Date: April 2025 Net Zero Target: 2040

1. Introduction

Bond & Coyne exists to help organisations with purpose tell their true stories. That purpose extends to how we operate as a business. We believe creativity should make the world better. This Carbon Reduction Plan sets out how we’ll cut our emissions and use our influence to move the creative industry towards a more sustainable future. It fulfills PPN 06/21 requirements, but more importantly, it reflects our values: empathy, purpose, and responsibility.

We’re a 15-strong team of strategists, creatives, designers, filmmakers and developers based in London, working with universities, charities, and cultural institutions across the UK and beyond. The work we create travels further than we do, which means the choices we make have impact.

2. Our Approach

We see carbon reduction as creative work, a design problem to be solved through curiosity, collaboration, and iteration.

We’ve built this plan around three principles:

1. Cut what we can control. Reduce our operational footprint across studio energy, travel, digital, and production.

2. Influence what we can’t control alone. Work with partners and clients who share our values and push for better standards.

2. Create change through creativity. Use our craft to help others communicate, educate, and inspire sustainable action.

3. Baseline Emissions

Baseline Year: FY 2022–23

Estimated total: 0.85 tCO₂e per year

Scope 1: None (no company-owned vehicles or onsite fuel).

Scope 2: Electricity used within our shared Workspace studio (4,405kWh).

Scope 3:

  • Staff commuting and business travel
  • Digital infrastructure (hosting, storage, cloud services)
  • Creative production (printing, film, materials)
  • Purchased goods and services

As an SME, we are not legally required to record and track our Scope 3 emissions, but will be modelling them and developing a reduction plan in 2026 following detailed measurement via the SME Climate Hub.

4. Targets

  • 50% reduction by 2030 (vs 2022–23 baseline)
  • Net Zero by 2040
  • Annual progress report shared publicly

But numbers alone aren’t enough. Our ambition is to become one of the UK’s most sustainable creative agencies, proving that good design and low carbon can, and should, go hand in hand.

5. Reduction Commitments

Studio & Operations

  • Confirm Workspace supply from 100% renewable electricity.
  • Introduce live energy dashboards in-studio to make impact visible.
  • Achieve zero landfill waste by 2026.
  • Move all office supplies to verified sustainable sources.

  • Design every website for efficiency: clean code, compressed assets, lighter UX.
  • Create a “Digital Carbon Score” for client web builds to benchmark improvement.

Culture & Influence

  • Establish The Studio Impact Lab — an internal and client-facing initiative exploring how design, storytelling and tech can reduce emissions.
  • Provide staff training in sustainable design and digital practices.
  • Share learnings openly with peers through talks, blogs and partnerships.

7. Declaration & Commitment

We recognise that sustainability is not a box to tick but a commitment to constant improvement. Every decision — from pixels to paper stock — carries weight. Bond & Coyne is committed to achieving Net Zero by 2040 and to using creativity as a force for environmental good.
