The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine needed a student-centred campaign that could build on its existing brand narrative while strengthening its position as a globally leading institution. The challenge was to deliver an evidence-based campaign that not only reflected its values and impact, but increased awareness, differentiation and desirability among high-potential international students in a competitive global market.

Our response

LSHTM is a world leader in global health, known for its research, impact and commitment to improving lives worldwide. Its audience reflects this: a highly international cohort of students who are not starting from scratch, but building on existing expertise, often returning to apply what they learn directly within their own communities. The opportunity was to create a campaign that recognised this reality, speaking to ambition that is already in motion.

Built around the proposition ‘Equipping bold minds to advance global health’, the campaign focused on proving this idea runs through everything they do, rather than simply stating it. We reframed prospective students not as a passive audience but as leaders in waiting, individuals ready to question, challenge and drive meaningful change where it matters most.

At the heart of the creative was a simple but powerful device: the question ‘what if’. Open-ended and unconstrained, it invites curiosity, removes preconceptions and encourages audiences to imagine new possibilities. This approach connects personal motivation with global impact, reflecting the applied, real-world nature of LSHTM’s teaching and research.

With a positive, confident tone and a flexible structure, the campaign supports both brand-level storytelling and course-specific messaging, allowing it to scale across markets and channels. The result is a distinctive, strategically grounded campaign that sharpens LSHTM’s competitive position, drives engagement with its core audiences, and translates its global impact into a compelling proposition for the next generation of students.
